Therapy and OrthoticsTwo of the Institute's most visible services are The Hand Therapy Center and the Orthotic Care Center. These clinics help patients gain or regain optimal use of their hands and upper extremities. While many patients come to the centers following a visit to the hand surgeons at Kleinert Kutz, the therapy and orthotic services are available to any individual needing treatment. The Hand Therapy Center offers evaluations, primary care, and work conditioning. It is staffed by physical therapists, physical therapy assistants, occupational therapists, and occupational therapy assistants. These therapists work closely with the faculty physicians and fellows to improve patient function. A therapist is in the clinic each day to receive initial and follow-up patient referrals. The orthotists at the Orthotic Care Center design, manufacture, and fit patients with custom orthoses (braces and splints) for the extremities, including the hand, arm, leg, and foot. They also design many different types of adaptive equipment to help patients lead active, independent lives.
